Owls Host Incarnate Word and Texas A&M Corpus Christi
Rice welcomes Incarnate Word and Texas A&M Corpus Christi to Reckling Park this week for a pair of midweek games bracketing conference series against Memphis and UAB. Tuesday's game with UIW has been moved up to a 1 p.m. start to avoid expected heavy showers in Houston on Tuesday evening while Wednesday's meeting with the Islanders is still slated for 6:35 p.m.

Pitching Matchups
Incarnate Word: Rice leads the overall series against the Cardinals 5-1, including a split of games at Reckling Park. The series began with a pair of two-game series in 1993 and 1994 at Cameron Field, which the Owls swept led by current Rice head coach Jose Cruz Jr. who was 3x10 with a triple, five RBI and a pair of steals in the four games. The series resumed in 2021 when Rice rallied from an early 10-2 deficit to win 15-12 in 10 innings on April 13, 2021. Rice tied it with three in the ninth and then won it on a three-run, walk-off homer by Braden Comeaux with one out in the 10th. Comeaux's game-ending blast is the most recent walk-off homer for the Owls. UIW took the most recent meeting 10-1 last year at Reckling.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi: The Owls and Islanders have met 21 times through the years with Rice leading 20-1. They first in a pair of home-and-home games in 1962 & 1963 and then with some regularity starting in 2006. That season the Owls traveled south for a single game on 2/28 for their first road game of the season, then returned to Corpus less that two weeks later to face the Islanders as well as TCU and Arizona State as part of the Corpus Christi Classic. They met each year from 2006-15 and then met in the 2021 Shriners Classic at Minute Maid Park with the Owls winning 16-5. The Islanders picked up their first win in the series in their last meeting here, 12-10 in 2022.
Doubling Up the Outs
Rice leads the AAC and ranks fourth nationally with 34 double plays in the first 32 games and eighth nationally with 1.06 per game. They finished 199th in the nation last year with 33 twin killings and 230th overall with an average of .57 per game. The last time the Owls averaged more than a double play per game was 2013 when they turned 69 in 66 games (1.08). They ranked sixth nationally in total double plays that year.
