Men’s T&F Set for AAC Indoor Championships

HOUSTON – The Rice Owls men's track & field team is set to debut in the American Athletic Conference at the AAC Indoor Championships this weekend in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day meet begins Friday morning and will conclude Saturday afternoon.
In total, the Owls will have 18 athletes competing in 11 events.
The Owls have several athletes ranking atop the AAC in several events. Ese Amata leads the AAC in high jump with a clearance of 2.18m, while Alexander Slinkman enters with the top mark in pole vault with a clearance of 5.55m. Cal Abdulky and Shaun Kerry sit second and fifth, respectively, in the weight throw while Jorge Hinojosa enters fifth in shot put.
Vincent Arousell's 5352 points in the heptathlon leads the conference (set at the Robert Platt Invitational) while Luke Ivy enters the meet with the ninth best score in the event.
On the track, Elliot Metcalf enters with the fifth-fastest time in the mile, while Gus Gannon sits sixth in the 3000m. Rice's 4x400m Relay team will enter with the eighth fastest time this season.
