DALLAS - The Rice Owls women's cross country team claimed the team title at the 2024 DBU Old Glory Gallop Saturday morning in Dallas, Texas. The Owls packed in four of their five scorers in the top 10 of the race.
Post-Meet Reaction: Head Coach Jim Bevan
"We have run two great races in a row and really solidified what we did last week with a great showing this morning. All five of our scorers came in within 40 seconds from the first one to the fifth. This was a great kind of dress rehearsal for the future for what we are trying to accomplish person to person and as a group. We had three different groups running and were trying to stay close together throughout and did so. This was a great experience and Dallas Baptist puts on a tremendous race and a great meet with horses, cattle and live music. This is a great cross country meet and I am grateful that we were able to come out here and run today. Again, we have run two really great races to solidify what we have been doing and I am very happy about where we are at right now as a team."
The freshman duo of Oliwia Kopeć and Daphne Mayer led the Owls once again this week, finishing the race in second and third.
Alex Gobran and Heidi Nielson were close behind with seventh and eighth-place finishes, with Amelie Attenborough rounding out the Rice scorers in 11th.
The Owls finished the race with nine runners finishing in the top 18.
Rice heads to College State next Friday for the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M.
