Gobran Claims SU Showdown Individual Title; Owls Finish Second
10/3/2026 10:17:00 AM | Women's Cross Country
GEORGETOWN - The Rice women's cross country team had a strong showing at the SU Showdown, led by Alex Gobran's first-place finish, to power the Owls to a second-place team finish Saturday morning.
Post-Meet Reaction: Head Cross Country Coach Hanna Peterson
"This team continues to rise to the challenge. We keep showing up, learning, and growing. Even when the conditions aren't perfect, we compete and leave it all out on the course. We didn't race our full lineup today, and so many stepped up when we needed them. Proud of the resilience and effort this group continues to show."
Gobran won the race with a time of 22:11.26, 23 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Cullen Merrell secured a top-10 finish in seventh with a time of 23:40.85
Katherine McNulty (ninth) and Amelia Shoemaker (eleventh) added sub-24-minute times while Susie Nestor rounded out the Rice scorers in 15th.
As a team, the Owls finished in second with 43 points.
Rice will be back in action on Oct. 16 at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invite.
