One More on the Road
The Owls are in Fort Worth to face TCU on Sunday afternoon at Schollmaier Arena. Rice will return home next Thursday against Georgia Tech.
Last Time Out
The Owls led wire-to-wire to take down Abilene Christian 69-58 on the road last Thursday. Dominique Ennis and Malia Fisher led the Owls, both dropping 13 points. Jazzy Owens-Barnett added another 12 points for Rice.
Historic Feats vs. HCU
Rice allowed only five points in the first half against HCU, marking the fewest points allowed in a half in program history. The Huskies' lone point in the first quarter also marked the fewest points scored against Rice in program history.
Non-conference Streaks
Rice's win over ACU Thursday night marked the 13th consecutive win over a non-conference opponent for the Owls, a program record. Rice's last loss to a non-conference team in the regular season came on Dec. 4, 2021 at UT Arlington (73-65).
Rice vs. TCU
The Owls are 30-20 all-time against the Horned Frogs, winning the last two meetings. Rice defeated TCU last season 68-58 at Tudor Fieldhouse with Ashlee Austin dropping 18 points. Destiny Jackson added another 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
She's Back!
Destiny Jackson is back for a fifth season with the Owls after averaging 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Jackson led the team with 100 assists and 42 steals. Last season, she dropped a career-high 33 points in Rice's 91-88 double-overtime win against Houston.
Fisher Tabbed for Preseason Honors, Owls Picked Third
Junior forward Malia Fisher was named to the 2023 Preseason All-AAC Second Team. Fisher, an All-C-USA Second Teamer last season, was second on the team with 11.8 points per game while leading the team with 6.3 rebounds per game. She also had a team-high five double-doubles on the season. Fisher had a career-high 22 points, including the game-winning steal and layup against Louisiana Tech. Rice was selected third in the team's AAC debut, finishing behind preseason favorite South Florida and last season's champion East Carolina.
New Season, New Conference
The 2023-24 campaign marks the debut season for Rice in the American Athletic Conference. The Owls joined the AAC on July 1, 2023, after spending 18 years in Conference USA, where Rice won three regular season titles and the 2019 C-USA Tournament title.
A Historic Season
Last season, Rice wrapped up non-conference play with a perfect 9-0 record, marking the best start in program history. During the non-conference slate, Rice picked up a win over crosstown rival Houston 91-88 (2OT) and earned back-to-back wins against Power 5 programs, taking down Texas A&M in College Station 66-58 and then defending the homecourt against TCU 68-58.
