Women’s Basketball Holds First Practice for 2026-27 Season

HOUSTON – The Rice women's basketball team opened the 2026-27 season with the team's first official practice on Monday afternoon at Fox Gym.
Shelley Pennington and Friends Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds enters her sixth season with the Owls after elevating the program's standard with a program-record 29 wins and the 2026 American Conference regular season championship last season.
Rice has several conference honorees returning this season, including American Conference Player of the Year Victoria Flores and Sixth Player of the Year Louann Battiston. All-Conference honoree Hailey Adams, along with Aniah Alexis also return for the Owls.
Edmonds' Owls boasted a program-record 29-win season and a program-record 22-game win streak last season. Rice led the nation with a 81.9% free throw percentage. Rice secured its fifth regular season title in program history.
Rice opens the 2026-27 season on Nov. 2 against Houston Christian at Tudor Fieldhouse.
