Gannon Earns All-Conference; Owls Fifth at AAC’s

GREENVILLE - The Rice men's cross country team finished fifth as a team in their conference debut at the 2023 AAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by East Carolina.
Freshman Gus Gannon led the Owls, finishing 14th while earning All-Conference honors with a time of 23:23.7 for the 8k race.
Ben Tijerina and Grant Samara finished 27th and 28th, respectively, while Davis Thames and Travis Dowd rounded out the Rice scorers.
Tulsa won the race by a narrow margin over Charlotte in second place, with only six points between the two schools. Charlotte's Nickolas Scudder won the race with a time of 22:33.4, 19 seconds faster than Tulane's Bradley Makuvire in second.
This is the tenth consecutive AAC team championship for Tulsa.
The Owls will be back in action on Nov. 10 at the NCAA South Central Regional, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
