HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's cross country team had a great season debut at the 49th annual Rice Invitational, with Gus Gannon finishing first while Rice also finished first as team. All five of Rice's scorers finished in the top seven of the race.
Post-Meet Reaction: Head Coach Jon Warren
"This was a good season opener. We had some pretty solid first race performances. Gus looked really good and to put five in the top seven was a super result. I think this was a very solid team performance and great kick off to the other races."
Gannon wins the Invite for the second consecutive year, with Jackson Moran finishing close behind in second place.
Andrew Murray added a fourth-place finish and Ben Tijerina ended the race in fifth. Marcus Gaitan rounded out the scorers in seventh.
Rice claims the team title once again after finishing second last season.
The Owls will be back in action on Sept. 26, at the Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State.
