Owls Finish Strong at Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA - The Rice men's cross country team had a strong showing at the Gans Creek Classic Friday morning, with Rice's top five finishers all running within 45 seconds of each other.

"Today was a mixture of things that went well and things we can improve on. Our top five ran a good overall time today for their first 8k, but we also didn't move up through the field as much as we could have. However, in a tremendous field like we ran against today, we can build upon this as we continue the season."
Gus Gannon led the Owls with a time of 24:24.3, finishing in 111th, with Brandon Martz just nine seconds behind Gannon in 128th.
Matthew Gaitan, Ben Tijerina and Ben Pearce rounded out the top Rice finishers.
Rice will be back in action on Oct. 16 at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational
