COLLEGE STATION - The Rice Owls men's cross country had a great bounce-back meet Friday morning at the NCAA South Central Regional, led by Gus Gannon's All-Region performance. The Owls finished 11th as a team out of the 32 schools competing.
Post-Meet Reaction: Head Coach Jon Warren
"Team-wise, we didn't have Elliot Metcalf today, and he's our normal number two. With that said, the other guys stepped up today, especially Jackson and Ben. Our top five ran really well to get us 11th today at a tremendous meet with great athletes. The most impressive today has to be Gus. To go from the debacle at conference and come back with an All-Region showing today is really impressive. He finished 21st and was the first runner to not break the course record today, that's how fast this race was. Excellent race by our guys today in a really fast, athletic and competitive race."
After struggling through adversities two weeks ago at the conference meet, the Owls bounced back strong, led by Gannon in 21st with a time of 30:07.1 in the 10k race.
Jackson Moran and Ben Tijerina were close behind in 48th and 56th, respectively. Wesley Wright and Filippo Aldrovandi rounded out the Rice scorers, also securing top-100 finishes.
Rice will be back after the New Year for the upcoming indoor track and field season.
