Golf Closes Day One of Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

Erie, Colo. — The Rice Golf team is tied for 14th-place after two rounds of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.
Graduate student Jay Kirchdorfer is one-under par, tied for 23rd-place after carding rounds of 70-73. The first round 70 was his third round of par or better this year and the 23rd of his career.
Junior Raghav Chugh and freshman Reggie Zhu are tied for 61st-place at four-over par. Chugh posted rounds of 72-76. The 72 was his 28th career round of par or better. Zhu carded rounds of 75-73.
Sophomore Lukas Boandl is tied for 68th-place at five-over par. He opened with a 77 before closing with a 72, his third round of par or better this year and the 12th of his career. Senior Blake Benson shot rounds of 76-80 to sit 12-over par in a 91st-place tie.
The Owls are tied with Utah Valley at 11-over par. San Francisco leads the tournament at 18-under par, seven strokes in front of UTEP. Mercer's Tobias Jonsson and San Francisco's Benjamin Partridge are tied for the individual tournament at six-under par, one stroke in front of Colorado's Justin Biwer and USF's Renato Naula and Svante Palmgren.

"It was a tough day for us. We talk a lot about making our mistakes at worse bogey and today we had lots of double bogies and even some triples. That's not how we play the game. These guys are much better than that. Tomorrow is our chance to get back on track."

The final round begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Rice will tee off with student-athletes from Grand Canyon, Utah Valley and a group of individuals from holes No. 11-13.
