Choudrant, La. — Two days after opening his collegiate career with a 68, freshman Henry Daly went one better, firing a final round 67 to close out the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club.
Daly finished six-under par in a tie for 12th-place. After starting the day with a par on the 10th hole, Daly birdied the 11th. He followed another par with three straight birdies before parring the final three holes to make the turn at four-under. After starting the back nine with a bogey, the Berkshire, England native parred five straight. But he closed the day with birdies on two of his final three holes.
Daly's six-under par for the tournament ties Rice's third-best tournament to par since 1991. It's also the best score in a season-opening tournament since Michael Whitehead's six-under par at the UTA/Waterchase Invitational to open the 2009-10 season.
Sophomore Raghav Chugh tied for 44th-place at even par, closing with a 74. It's his fifth career tournament of par or better. Graduate student Jay Kirchdorfer fired a two-under par 70 to tie his career-low round and finish three-over par in a tie for 66th-place. It is his second round of par or better this year and the ninth of his career.
Junior Blake Benson posted a 74 and finished six-over par, tied for 83rd-place. Freshman Lukas Boandl tied for 99th-place at nine-over par after closing with a 76 and freshman Davis Byrd, playing as an individual, carded an 83 to finish in 123rd-place, 26-over par.
The Owls shot a three-under par 285 to finish one-under par for the tournament in 12th-place. Southern Miss won the team competition at 28-under par, one stroke in front of Middle Tennessee. USM's Thongpipat Rattanayanon finished 11-under par to earn medalist honors, one stroke in front of Middle Tennessee's Owen Stamper.

"It was a good start to the season for a young team getting our feet wet in competition. The second round hurt our momentum, but we really showed resilience today and we showed a lot of positives from round one. We've got the Jim Castaneda Cup next then we're onto Colorado."
