Boulder, Colo. — Following a record-tying round, the Rice Golf team is tied for the lead at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational. The teams got through the first nine holes of the second round before play was suspended due to lightning.
The Owls are tied with Wyoming at seven-under par, two strokes in front of third-place Arkansas State and Colorado.
Rice began the day by shooting a six-under par 274. The Owls were one-under par in the second round before rain and lightning caused the suspension. The 274 tied the lowest 18-hole score in school history, set during the final round of the 2011 Border Olympics. It is also the third round under par through the team's first four rounds of the season.
Freshman Henry Daly continued his strong start to his career, tying for the lead at four-under par. He began the day carding a one-under par 69, his third round in the 60s this year. He got off to a strong start in the second round with birdies on four of his first seven holes before a bogey on the 16th, getting through eight holes before the suspension.
Sophomore Raghav Chugh is in a tie for fifth-place at three-under par. He tied his career-low, firing a three-under par 67. Through eight holes of the second round, he is at even par. It is his first round in the 60's this year and the sixth of his career. It is also his third round of par or better this year and the 18th of his career.
Graduate student Jay Kirchdorfer is tied for 10th-place at three-under par. He began the day firing a two-under par 68 to set a new career-low. He's currently one-over par in the second round at the turn.
Freshman Lukas Boandl recorded his first career round of par or better, carding an even par 70. He's one-over par through 10 holes, sitting in a tie for 26th-place.
Senior Forrest Park is tied for 57th-place after posting a 74 in the first round. Through 10 holes in the second round, he is one-over par.

"I'm proud of our guys. We went into this one with confidence knowing that we could go low on a tough course. There are some good teams in this field and still lots of golf to play. I'm excited for us to continue tomorrow what we started today."
