Gulf Shores, Ala. — Freshman Raghav Chugh and senior Jake Benson both carded second round 69's to place inside the top 10 heading into the final round of the Craft Farms Intercollegiate.
As a team, the Owls fired one of only two rounds under par, finishing with a one-under 287 to sit in a tie for fourth-place at two-over par.
Chugh is tied for fourth-place at five-under par. He opened his round with birdies on three of the first four holes. After parring the next seven holes, he birdied the 12th hole. Chugh slipped up with a bogey on 14 and a double-bogey on 15, but he bounced back with two straight birdies on the 16th and 17th holes before closing his round with a par.
The 69 is his team-leading 11th round of par or better this year and his fifth round in the 60's, which is tied for the fourth-most in a season since 1991.
Benson is two-under par in a tie for seventh-place. The Nottingham, England native started his round with a birdie but gave it back with a bogey on the second hole. He came right back with consecutive birdies on holes three and four before recording pars on the next 10 holes. A birdie on the 15th hole got him to three-under before closing his round with three straight pars.
The 69 is his seventh round of par or better this year and the 49th of his career. It is also his second round in the 60's this year and the 15th of his career. Both are the second-most since 1991.
Junior Forrest Park, playing as an individual, carded a 73 and is in a tie for 13th-place at one-over par. Junior Thomas Bockholt III is tied for 23rd-place at three-over par after posting a 72. It was his third round of par or better this year and the eighth of his career.
Seniors Harrison Hineline and Campbell Gibson are tied for 45th and 69th-place, respectively. Hineline shot a 77 and is six-over par while Gibson carded an 82 to sit at 13-over par.
South Alabama leads the team competition at 20-under par, 20 strokes in front of second-place Oral Roberts. USA's Jack Hearn is in the individual lead at 11-under par, one stroke in front of Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard.
