Owls Increase Lead at Tempest Collegiate

Gladewater, Texas — The Rice Golf team fired an eight-under par 280 to increase its lead heading into the final round of the Tempest Collegiate.
The Owls are 15-under par and hold a six stroke lead in front of second-place South Alabama. The eight-under par is Rice's best round to par this year and ties the third best best round to par in school history. It's 36-hole score of 561 is the second lowest in school history behind the 555 set last week at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.
Freshman Henry Daly is in second-place at five-under par after posting a four-under par 68, one stroke behind Stephen F. Austin's Rick Frauenberger for the individual lead. It was his fifth round this year in the 60's and his sixth round of par or better.
Daly began the day with five straight pars before recording his first career eagle on the par-five sixth. He closed the front nine with a birdie to make the turn at three-under. After beginning the back nine with two pars, he birdied two of the next three holes before recording a double bogey on the 15th. But he got one stroke back on the 16th with a birdie before closing his round with back-to-back pars.
Freshman Lukas Boandl and sophomore Raghav Chugh are tied for third-place at three-under par. Boandl carded an even par 72, his third round of par or better this year, while Chugh posted a 74.
Graduate student Jay Kirchdorfer fired a three-under par 69 to get back under par for the tournament at one-under par, tied for 12th-place. It's his fourth round of par or better this year and the 11th of his career. It's also his second round in the 60's.
Junior Blake Benson tied the best round of his career, carding a 71, his second round of par or better this year. He's tied for 28th-place at three-over par and senior Forrest Park, playing as an individual, is tied for 30th-place at four-over par after posting a 73.

The final round begins tomorrow at 7:20 a.m. Rice will tee off at 8:59 a.m. from the first hole and is paired with student-athletes from South Alabama, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas State.
