Trio in Top 15 at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HOUSTON — The Rice golf team has three golfers in the top 15 through two rounds of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, played at Westwood Golf Club.
Junior Harrison Hineline and senior Jake Benson are tied for ninth-place at four-under par while junior Jack Diamond, playing as an individual, is tied for 13th-place at two-under par.
Hineline began the day by tying his career-low round of 66 to grab the lead after the first round. He followed that with a 74 to set a new career-low 36-hole score of 140. The 66 is also his fourth round of par or better this year and the 12th of his career.
Benson opened the day by tying his season-best with a 69. He followed that with a 71, which gave him a season-low 36-hole score of 140. He now has four rounds of par or better this year and 40 in his career. He also has two rounds sin the 60's this year and 11 in his career.
Diamond twice set a career-low round, first opening with a 73 before recording his first career round in the 60's with a 69, allowing his to set a new career-low 36-hole score with a 142.
Sophomore Thomas Bockholt III is tied for 59th-place at five-over par. He began the day with a 73 before following with a 76. Junior Austin Escamilla and freshman Rodrigo Martin are tied for 72nd-place at eight-over par. Escamilla opened the tournament with a season-low 73 before carding a 79 while Martin posted consecutive 76's.
Sophomore Forrest Park and senior Rishi Kejriwal are 10-over par and tied for 78th-place. Park carded a 76 and 78 while Kejriwal had a 78-76.
Rice is in seventh-place at five-over par, four strokes behind Arkansas State. The Owls fired their best round of the season, posting a four-under par 284 before closing with a 297. Sam Houston State leads the tournament at 20-under par, four strokes in front of Florida Atlantic.
Sam Houston State's William Holcomb and FAU's Enrique Dimayuga are tied for the individual lead at eight-under par, one stroke in front of Houston's Luke Long and Louisiana-Lafayette's Peter Hinnant.
