Next up: No. 2 Texas in Austin
In Brief: The 27th ranked Rice women's posted their ninth straight win, topping UTA 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Doubles: Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi snapped 5-5 tie to win the last two games and give the Owls the first point of the day. Michaela Haet and Linda Huang had given the Owls the early advantage with a 6-2 win at the second line.
Singles: The Owls maintained their pace by taking four of six first sets in singles and saw Diae El Jardi, Linda Huang and Anna Bowtell carry that momentum into their second sets to secure the clinching points.
Elizabeth Schmidt: "Every match is an opportunity to put another tool in our toolbox. They are all a little different. Today we were on the back courts for the first time this spring and it was warmer and windier than it's been. The bottom line is people on the team stepped up and got the job done against a feisty UTA team. They make a ton of balls and are not going to go away. They fight until the end and you saw that in some of the second sets. But our team stayed the course, no one panicked and we kept playing our game."
Up Next: The Owls travel to Austin for a Saturday matchup against the #2 Texas Longhorns at noon. Texas (14-1) is the highest ranked opponent the Owls faced since No. 2 Stanford took a 5-2 decision over Rice at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium in 2014.
