Owls Face Stern Road Test on Saturday

Combined dual vs. UTA followed by road meeting with second-ranked Texas
In Brief: The 27th ranked Rice women's tennis team (10-2) will host a combined match with the Rice men against UTA on Thursday at 1 p.m. then head to Austin to take on the second ranked Texas Longhorns at the Texas Tennis Center at noon.
Rankings: The Owls moved up seven spots in the new Oracle/ITA collegiate poll to No. 27, their highest ranking since they were 20th at the end of the 2014 regular season.

UTA: The Mavericks are 12-2 this season, coming off a 4-0 loss to upcoming Rice opponent SMU on Tuesday. This is the 12th meeting all-time between the schools with Rice having won the previous 11. This is the second meeting at GRBTC, with the Owls taking a 4-0 win here in 2019.
Texas: The Longhorns are 14-1 on the season and have won seven straight since falling to #1 North Carolina in the championship match of the ITA Indoor National Championship in early February. They are currently ranked second in both the Oracle/ITA and USTA national polls. Texas will be the highest ranked opponent the Owls faced since No. 2 Stanford took a 5-2 decision over Rice at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium in 2014. Texas leads the overall series 28-2, with both Rice wins coming over the last six meetings. The Owls snapped a 24-match losing streak against Texas with a 4-3 win in 2013 in Austin and three years later picked up their first win against the Longhorns with a 4-3 at GRBTC in 2016.
