Rice to Host Rice Invitational

HOUSTON – Rice women's tennis will host its annual Rice Invitational this weekend at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, welcoming nine visiting teams.
Sam Houston, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Houston, UTRGV, UTSA, Baylor, SMU and Northwestern State will join the Owls in competition throughout the weekend.
Play begins at 9 a.m. Friday with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Saturday will feature one round of doubles and one round of singles, with one final round of singles scheduled for Sunday.
Returning Owls Anushka Ashar, Francesca Maguina, Fernanda Martinez, Uma Bakaityte and Daniela Chica will be joined by newcomer Josephine Kunz as they make their season debuts on their home courts.
"We are looking forward to hosting this weekend on our home courts," head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "The team has been working hard and is excited to get back out on the competition court."
Rice last competed at the George R. Brown Tennis Center when it secured the 2026 American Conference Championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
