Kunz and Bakaityte Win Doubles Flight at Rice Invite

HOUSTON – Josephine Kunz and Uma Bakaityte won their doubles flight Saturday at the Rice Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, while Bakaityte, Kunz and Anushka Ashar advanced to the finals of their respective singles flights.

Kunz and Bakaityte opened the day with a 6-3 victory over SMU's Carrington Brown and Brooklyn Olson to win their doubles flight.

In singles, Bakaityte defeated Brown, 6-3, 6-0, while Kunz rallied after dropping the first set to Tulane's Whitley Pate, winning 1-6, 6-2, 6-1. Ashar also rallied for a three-set victory, defeating Tulane's Elizabeth Braathen, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

Rice will close out the tournament Sunday, with singles play beginning at 9 a.m.
