Owls place 3rd as a team; place four runners on all-conference teams
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Rice Owls women's cross country team placed third as a team at Saturday morning's Conference USA Championships as they accumulated 78 points and had four all-conference performances for the first time since 2018.
Rice sophomore Grace Forbes blew away the field with a time of 20:24.0 in the 6k race to win her second consecutive individual title, joining former Owl Cali Roper (2014-15) and three others as the only runners in league history to repeat as champions. Forbes secured her 10th career C-USA title (cross country + T&F) by running at a 5:28 pace and defeated the next closest competitor by 31 seconds. The individual victory was her fourth this cross country season in five races.
Also earning all-conference honors for the Owls was senior Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi who placed 16th overall with a time of 21:47 to snag Third Team accolades, her second cross country all-conference recognition of her career. Sophomores Caitlin Wosika (21:50) and Taigen Hunter-Galvan (21:55) rounded out Rice's all-conference performers, finishing 18th and 19th, respectively. The all-conference performance was the second straight of Hunter-Galvan's career while Wosika earned her first. Alyssa Balandran all scored for the Owls placing 24th with a time of 22.18.
The Owls will now set their eyes on the NCAA South Central Regional, which will be hosted by Baylor on Nov. 12 and will get underway at 10 a.m.
