Begins at 10 a.m. in Waco
HOUSTON - The Rice women's cross country team heads to Waco on Friday to race at the NCAA South Central Regional, hosted by Baylor at Cottonwood Creek GC.
The Owls last competed back on Oct. 30 when they finished third out of 13 teams at the Conference USA Championship. Sophomore Grace Forbes won her second straight C-USA individual title and earned all-conference honors, along with Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi (16th), Caitlin Wosika (18th), and Taigen Hunter-Galvan (19th).
Friday's race, which will begin at 10 a.m. (CT), will be the Owls sixth of the season and the team will be vying for a trip to the NCAA Championships later this month in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Owls currently rank No. 4 in the most recent USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings.
For student-athletes who qualify, the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will take place at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday, Nov. 20.
After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals per gender are selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. Among individuals NOT selected as members of qualifying teams in the above process, the top four finishers at each regional meet are automatically selected (each must have finished within the top 25 of the region).
At-large selection: Two additional athletes will be selected from the remainder of the national pool (and must have finished in the regional top 25) as at-large individuals (USTFCCCA).
