Rice Dominates Southern Miss, 30-6

The Lede: Rice took advantage of early turnovers, and Mike Collins and Austin Trammell connected on three touchdowns as Rice defeated Southern Miss, 30-6.
The Story: On Southern Miss' second possession, Miles McCord recorded his first career interception. The Owls then drove to the USM three-yard line before stalling, where Collin Riccitelli connected on a 21-yard field goal to give Rice a 3-0 lead after one quarter. Two plays into the second quarter, Mike Collins connected on a short out route with Austin Trammell, who turned it into a 72-yard touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, Rice pooch kicked it and Southern Miss let it drop, allowing Rice to recover. On the next play, Collins hit Jake Bailey from 25 yards for his first career touchdown, giving Rice a 16-0 lead. The Golden Eagles got on the board on their next drive, going 47 yards for a 45-yard field goal. Following a Rice punt, Chike Anigbogu forced the Owls second fumble and third turnover of the half before Collins again connected with Trammell, this time for a 13-yard touchdown. Southern Miss connected on a 26-yard field goal to close the half as Rice went into halftime with a 23-6 lead. After the teams were held scoreless in the third quarter, the Owls put the game away for good when Collins and Trammell teamed up for a third time, this time for 14 yards.
