Rice Cards Second Straight Round Under Par to Close Trinity Forest Invitational

Dallas, Texas — Rice fired a two-under par 282 to finish seven-under par in fourth-place at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU and played at the par-71, 7,486-yard Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The Owls finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 845, the lowest since at least 1990. The seven-under par was their third lowest score to par in that timeframe.
Junior Jake Benson fired a one-under par 70 to finish five-under for the tournament in a tie for seventh-place, becoming the first golfer since Kevin Reilly in 2014 to start the season with consecutive top-ten finishes.
Benson's 54-hole score of 208 tied his career-low and ties the fourth-lowest 54-hole score since 1990. He now has five rounds of par or better this year and 28 in his career.
Junior Rishi Kejriwal tied for 31st-place at even par after closing with a one-under 70. It is second round of par or better this year and the ninth in his career.
Sophomore Harrison Hineline and senior Nicholas Duggan each closed with a 71 to tie for 33rd-place at one-over par. Hineline has two rounds of par or better this year and seven in his career while Duggan has two rounds of par or better this year and 21 in his career. Freshman Thomas Bockholt carded a 73 to tie for 72nd-place tie at nine-over par.
Arizona State won the tournament at 30-under par, four strokes in front of host SMU. ASU's Alex del Rey set a tournament record at 16-under par, five strokes in front of SMU's Justin Thompson.
Rice returns to the links in two weeks when it travels to Bridgeport, W.V., for the Health Plan Mountaineer Invitational, Oct. 7-8.
