Benson in Fourth Heading into Final Round of Bayou City Collegiate Classic

PEARLAND, Texas — Sophomore Jake Benson sits at three-under par in a fourth-place tie heading into the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, played at the par-72, 7,254-yard Golfcrest Country Club.
Benson is just four shots back of the lead after beginning the day firing a three-under par 69, his fourth round in the 60's this year and the fifth of his career. He backed it up with an even par 72 in the second round. The Nottingham, England native now has a team-leading 12 rounds of par of better this year and 20 in his career.
Freshman Campbell Gibson, playing as an individual, is tied for 11th-place at one-under par. He opened the tournament firing a career-best 70, his first career round of par or better, before carding a 73. His 36-hole score of 143 was also a career-best.
Freshman Harrison Hineline, playing as an individual, is one-over par in a 19th-place tie. Hineline fired his first career round in the 60's with a 69 in the opening round before following it with a 76. He now has three rounds of par or better.
Junior Nicholas Duggan carded back-to-back 73's to sit two-over par in a tie for 24th-place.
Senior Mason Weld, playing as an individual, is tied for 33rd-place at four-over par. He fired a 69 to begin the day before carded a 79. The 69 was his sixth career round in the 60's but his first while at Rice.
Freshman Austin Escamilla carded rounds of 72 and 81 to sit nine-over par in a 63rd-place tie. The 72 was his fourth round of par or better. Rogers' 72 tied a season-low. It was his first round of par or better this year and the fifth of his career.
Junior Grant Rogers and sophomore Rishi Kejriwal are tied for 67th-place at 10-over par. Rogers posted rounds of 72 and 82 while Kejriwal carded round of 76-78.
Freshman Jack Diamond, playing as an individual, is 22-over par in 82nd-place after consecutive rounds of 83.
Rice is 14-over par in 10th-place. The Owls began the day with a two-under par 286 but followed it with a second round 304.
Sam Houston State leads the team tournament at seven-under par, 12 strokes in front of second-place George Washington. SHSU's Luis Carrera is in the individual lead at seven-under par, one stroke in front of Arkansas State's Zan Luka Stirn and UTSA's Collin Clark.
