Golf Duo Earn Top Five Finishes at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

PEARLAND, Texas — Sophomore Jake Benson and freshman Harrison Hineline each finished in the top five of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, played at the par-72, 7,254-yard Golfcrest Country Club.
Benson fired a 71 to tie for second-place at four-under par, one stroke behind individual medalist Collin Clark of UTSA. It is his first career top five finish. He also has a team-leading 13 rounds of par or better this year and 21 in his career.
Hineline shot a career-low 68 to finish in finish three-under par and tied for fifth-place, earning his first career top five finish. He set a career-low 54-hole score of 213. The 68 is also his second round in the 60's and his fourth round of par or better.
It is the first time Rice has placed two individuals in the top five since last year's ORU/SFA Spring Break Challenge.
Junior Nicholas Duggan carded a 74 to tie for 22nd-place at four-over par. Freshman Campbell Gibson, playing as an individual, posted an 80 to tie for 37th-place at seven-over par. Campbell also set a career-low 54-hole score at 223.
Senior Mason Weld, playing as an individual, finished in 42nd place at eight-over par after closing with a 76. Freshman Austin Escamilla carded a 74 to finish 11-over par in a 55th-place tie.
Junior Grant Rogers and sophomore Rishi Kejriwal tied for 73rd-place at 16-over par after each shooting a 78. Freshman Jack Diamond, playing as an individual, recorded a season-best 74 to finish in 80th-place at 24-over par.
Rice finished 23-over par in ninth-place after carding a final round 297.
Sam Houston State won the team tournament at two-under par, four strokes in front of second-place UTSA.

Rice begins postseason play next Monday-Thursday, Apr. 22-25, when it travels to Texarkana, Ark., for the Conference USA Championship.
