
Cross Country Set for C-USA Championships in Bowling Green

Men race at 9 a.m., Women at 10 a.m.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Rice men's and women's cross country teams will be vying for a league title this Saturday, Nov. 2 at the 2019 Conference USA Championships, which will be hosted by WKU at Kereiakes Park.
The men will run an 8k race at 9 a.m. (CT) followed by the women's 6k trek at 10 a.m. (CT).
Men's Preview
The Rice men, who placed third at C-USA's last season, have finished in the top three at the C-USA Championships in 10 of the last 14 seasons and will be vying for their first-ever C-USA team title on Saturday.
The Owls are ranked fifth in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings. Junior Hociel Landa has been the Owls top finisher twice, while junior teammate Alex Topini took the honors in the season opener. Ace Castillo, Andrew Abikhaled, and Adolfo Carvalho also figure to play prominent roles on Saturday.
Middle Tennessee, who is ranked No. 15 in the nation, enters the meet as the favorites while Charlotte (8th-Southeast), North Texas (11th-South Central), and UTEP (15th-Mountain Region) are currently ranked regionally.
Women's Preview
The Rice women have won four C-USA team titles (2005, 2007, 2015, 2016) and have finished in the top three in 12 of the 14 seasons they've competed in the league.
The Owls enter Saturday's race ranked fourth in the latest USTFCCCA South Central Regional rankings. Rice will have fierce competition from Middle Tennessee, who is receiving votes in the USTFCCCA Top-30 Poll, along with Southern Miss (8th-South Region) and UTEP (15th-Mountain Region).
Rice is expected to be led by freshman sensation Grace Forbes, who was named the C-USA Female Athlete of the Week following her third-place debut in Santa Clara. Senior Khayla Patel also earned C-USA honors earlier this season and will join Rachel Shoemaker, Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi, and Ashley Messineo as the Owls top runners.
Following Saturday's race, both teams will gear up for the NCAA South Central Regional, which will be hosted by Arkansas this year on Nov. 15.
