Rice leads wire-to-wire in fourth straight win
RUSTON, La. – The Rice Owls women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and lockdown defense to win their fourth straight game, defeating Louisiana Tech on the road 61-51 Saturday afternoon at Thomas Assembly Center.
Rice (11-3, 2-0) completed an impressive weekend road sweep of their first two C-USA contests of the season by holding the Lady Techsters (8-7, 0-2) to 35 percent shooting, including a 1-of-14 effort from three-point territory. The Owls limited Tech to just 22 second half points, including just eight points in a critical third quarter.
For the weekend the Owls allowed just 49 points per game on 34 percent shooting and just six made three-pointers on 40 attempts (15.0 percent).
"It can be very hard to open conference play on the road, so we're just really proud of our team for their focus and grit in both of these hard-fought wins."
Offensively the Owls placed three players in double-figures, led by 17 points from junior guard Erica Ogwumike, who made 8-of13 field goal attempts while also collecting seven rebounds. Senior guard Nicole Iademarco added a season-high 16 points and led all players with a season-high eight rebounds. Redshirt sophomore Nancy Mulkey contributed 12 points to go along with five rebounds in 20 minutes.
