Duggan leads Owls with tie for 15th-place
Fort Collins, Colo. — Rice shot a final round 29-over par 309 to finish in 16th-place at the Ram Masters Invitational. The tournament is being played at the par-70, 7,218-yard Fort Collins Country Club.
Junior Nicholas Duggan led the Owls with a 75 to finish three-over par and tied for 15th-place. His 54-hole score of 213 was a career-best and he now has two top 20 finishes this year and four for his career.
Sophomore Jake Benson carded a final round 79 to finish nine-over par. Senior Grant Rogers posted his second straight 76 to tie for 82nd-place at 20-over par. Sophomore Rishi Kejriwal finished in 89th-place at 22-over par after closing with an 80 and senior Mason Weld posted a 79 to finish 23-over par, tied for 90th-place.
"We were just on the wrong side of some really tough hole locations," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "It was not a good day for the Owls. I still believe in this team. We'll get back to Houston and get back to work to get ready for next week's Trinity Forest Invitational."
Host Colorado took home the tournament title at four-under par, 14 strokes in front of Illinois State. Wyoming's Dan Starzinski earned medalist honors at 11-under par, seven strokes in front of Colorado State's Parathakorn Suyasri.
Rice closes its three-week season-opening tournament run next week when it travels to Dallas for the Trinity Forest Invitational, Sept. 23-25.
