
Duggan, Benson Have Career Days at Ram Masters Invitational

The duo are in the top 15 heading into the final round
Fort Collins, Colo. — Junior Nicholas Duggan and sophomore Jake Benson had career days at the Ram Masters Invitational. The tournament is being played at the par-70, 7,218-yard Fort Collins Country Club.
Duggan began the day with a 68, tying his career-best round which he also shot in the first round of 2016 Sam Hall Intercollegiate. He followed that with a second round 70 to sit two-under par in a tie for seventh-place. His 36-hole score of 138 is a career-best. He now has three career rounds in the 60's and with two rounds of par or better, the San Antonio native has three on the year and 14 for his career.
Benson also began with a 68 to tie his career-best round. He followed that with a 72 to sit at even par in a 14th-place tie. His 36-hole score of 140 is a career-best and he now has two career rounds in the 60's. He also has two rounds of par or better this year and 10 in his career.
Rice carded consecutive 11-over par 291's to sit in 13th-place at 22-over par.
Sophomore Rishi Kejriwal is tied for 80th-place at 12-over par. He started the day with a 79, but battled back to shoot a 73 in the second round. Seniors Mason Weld and Grant Rogers are tied for 90th-place at 14-over par. Weld carded consecutive 77's while Rogers posted rounds of 78-76.
"We were not sharp out there today," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "Nick (Duggan) and Jake (Benson) played solid golf, but we needed a couple more good rounds to stay in contention. We'll fight our way up the leaderboard tomorrow."
Host Colorado State leads the tournament at 13-under par, 11 strokes in front of Illinois State. Wyoming's Dan Starzinski leads the individual tournament at seven-under par, one stroke in front of Colorado State's Parathakorn Suyasri.
Rice tees off in the final round tomorrow at 10:11 a.m. CT. The Owls are paired with student-athletes from South Dakota State.
