Bastrop, Texas — Sophomore Mitchell Meissner shot a final round 71 to finish nine-under par and go wire-to-wire to win his first career tournament at the Jim West Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 7,205-yard Wolfdancer Golf Club.
It is the first individual title for Rice since Jeff Wibawa won the 2011 Lone Star Invitational. He finished one shot ahead of Pavon Sagoo of Saint Mary's. The 71 is his fifth round of par or better this year and the 11th of his career and his 54-hole score of 207 is a career-best.
"Mitchell's wire-to-wire win is big for him and the team," said Rice head coach Justin Emil. "I'm so proud of him and the perseverance he has shown since the fall. It was a good finish for the team as well. The guys are really excited about the conference championship in two weeks."
The Owls closed the tournament with a one-over 289 to finish one-under par in third-place, four shots behind second-place McNeese State. It is Rice's fourth top-three finish and the third in its last four tournaments. Saint Mary's won the team title, shooting 16-under par.
