Sweep Opens Rice Men's Tennis Season

The 30th ranked Rice men's tennis team opened their 2011 spring season by sweeping every match on their way to a 7-0 victory over Lamar and a 5-0 blanking of Prairie View at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on Saturday.
With the threat of rain a constant factor, the Owls raced out to grab the doubles point against Lamar. A light rain caused a brief stoppage of play in the singles matches, but after the delay, the Owls continued their swift work, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.
The afternoon session against Prairie View began with singles matches because of the likelihood of more consistent rain. Rice again raced to quick victories in five of the six matches before rain brought the match to a close with Peter Frank still on the court and leading 6-1, 4-1.
The Owls will hit the road next weekend to face 44th ranked Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m.
