BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Rice men's tennis team defeated Florida Atlantic 4-0 on Friday to open its Florida road trip.

The Owls improved to 7-6 on the season and secured their seventh doubles point of the year. Petro Kuzmenok clinched the match for Rice, marking his second match-clinching point of the season.

Rice opened the match by claiming the doubles point. Rafael Botran and Tommy Czaplinski swept Luca Miremont and Lucca Pignation, 6-0, on court three. Florida Atlantic evened doubles play when Segundo Goity Zapico and Simon Myslivec defeated Kabeer Kapasi and Yair Sarouk, 6-2. Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro secured the point for Rice with a 6-3 victory over Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera.

Kapasi gave Rice a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Myslivec in singles. Gabriel Porras followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Bullion Sharp to extend the lead to 3-0. Kuzmenok clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Goity Zapico.

When play was halted, Navarro led Havlicek 7-6, 3-4 on court two. Botran trailed Pazdera 7-6, 3-2, while Czaplinski was in a third set on court five, trailing 6-1, 4-6, 0-3.

Rice returns to action Sunday against South Florida at 12:30 p.m. Fans can follow the match on PlaySight.
