Owls Complete Road Sweep in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE – The Rice men's tennis team defeated UTSA 4-1 on Saturday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
The No. 65 Owls improved to 11-6 overall and 9-5 on the road. The win also extended Rice's winning streak to seven matches.
In doubles, Kabeer Kapasi and Yair Sarouk defeated Oskar Grzegorzewski and Constantin Radu 6-3 to open the day. Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Enzo Vargas and Timeo Bretin.
In singles, Navarro quickly dispatched Bretin 6-1, 6-0. Gabriel Porras followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Chetwey Ungar. UTSA picked up its lone point when Kapasi fell to Ontiveros 6-4, 7-6. Kuzmenok clinched the match for the Owls for the second time this weekend, defeating Vargas 6-1, 7-6.
Rice returns home to host Tulsa on Friday, April 3.
