Came to Rice as a graduate transfer from Vanderbilt.

Returned to action at LA Tech after missing the previous three games with an injury and threw for 216 yards and a touchdown... Threw  for 1,328 yards and 10 TDs nine starts... His 10 TD passes are the most since Tyler Stehling threw 12  in 2016... Finished 9th in C-USA with 132.8 passing yards per game... Threw for 299 yards at Hawai’i, the most passing yards by an Owl since Stehling threw for 407 vs. Prairie View in 2016... Wiley Green topped that mark at North Texas Threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns vs. Houston, with all three TD’s coming on the first career TD receptions for each receiver (Jordan Myers, Jaeger Bull, Brendan Harmon)... First Rice QB to throw three TDs since Stehling threw for five against Prairie View A&M on Oct 22, 2016... Completed 20-31, 20 completions were the most since Stehling had 35 at Charlotte on Nov. 12, 2016... Made his collegiate starting debut vs. Prairie View and led the Owls to touchdowns on each of his first two drives in the first half and to a touchdown and game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter... Was his first extensive game action since the final game of his senior year of high school when Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh NC) was eliminated in the second round of the 2013 North Carolina 3AA playoffs (11/22/13). 

Slowed by injuries, Stankavage earned his initial collegiate playing time in the Commodores' victory over Alabama A&M... Completed only pass attempt vs. A&M for six-yard gain.

Injuries derailed Stankavage's progress for the second straight season... Stankavage missed the entire season after suffering the leg injury during spring drills.

Stankavage did not see action during his second year on campus as a prospective quarterback... Suffered offseason leg injury that limited his ability to play.

Stankavage did not see game action as a true freshman... Impressed teammates as a scout team quarterback during fall camp... Worked to add weight through solid conditioning effort during first year on campus.

High School
Senior captain... Two-year starter for Cardinal Gibbons in Raleigh, North Carolina... As senior QB, completed 247 of 408 passes for 3,564 yards and 34 TDs, helping Crusaders to 9-4 record and Class 3A state playoff run... Also rushed for 1,058 yards and 13 TDs... Named region's Offensive Player of the Year and First Team Big 8 as senior... In 2012, threw for 1,920 yards and 28 TDs as Cardinal Gibbons were conference champions and had an 11-1 overall record... Played varsity basketball.

Shawn Anthony Stankavage... Graduated from Vanderbilt with a degree in Economics... Born Oct. 3... Son of Scott Stankavage and Sue Walsh... Has four sisters, Sarah, Shelby, Ella and Jordan, and a brother, Leo... Dad played QB at University of North Carolina and in NFL with Denver Broncos; mother was an elite swimmer, winning 11 NCAA Championships and qualifying for the 1980 Moscow Olympics in the 100-meter backstroke which was boycotted by the United States.
