Owls wrap homestand by hosting Houston on Tuesday
How it Happened: Memphis opened the day by working out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the eighth inning in the resumption of Saturday's game and then tacked on three runs in the ninth for a 10-6 win. They jumped ahead 2-0 in Game Three before Rice fired back with four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. Kutter-Gage Webb blooped a double to left to open the fifth. One out later, he moved to third on a single by Lorenzo Rios, then scored on a single by Landis Davila. Cole Green followed with a double to score Rios, and Davila followed him across the plate thanks to a sacrifice fly by Colin Robson. Paul Smith closed out the four-run frame with a double of his own to bring home Green. The Owls increased the lead to 5-2 as Hiram Bocachica Jr. led off the inning with a triple and scored on a ground out by Webb. Memphis scored one in the eight, tied it with two in the ninth and then took the lead with one in the 10th to pick up the sweep.
Next Up: The Owls conclude their current homestand on Tuesday night with Game Two of the Silver Glove Series against Houston, which will also feature pregame activities surrounding Fleet Week in Houston. First pitch is set for 6:35.
Notes
- The Owls fell to 24-17 on the season, 13-9 at home, and 3-2 in home series.
- Memphis has won seven straight at Reckling Park.
- Rice was swept in a conference series for the first time this year.
- Sunday starter Ryland Urbanczyk struck out a career-best seven in six innings.
