Rice Drops Series Opener to Florida Atlantic

HOUSTON — Florida Atlantic scored six unanswered runs, as Rice fell to FAU in the series opener, 6-2, Friday night at Reckling Park.
FAU threatened in the first inning, getting two runners on with one out. But Tanner Wiggins induced a ground out, and John Martinez lined out to right. Rice got on the board in the second. With two on and one out, Landis Davila and Cole Green hit back-to-back singles, scoring Kutter-Gage Webb and Colin Robson, respectively.
In the third, Florida Atlantic loaded the bases with no outs. After Martinez fouled out, Brett Patten grounded to first. Garet Boehm got the out at second, but Patten beat the throw, allowing Kyle Boylston to tie the game.
FAU took the lead in the fourth, loading the bases with one out. Nick Romano and Michael Perazza each reached on a fielder's choice, bringing in three runs, as Rice was only able to get one out.
Florida Atlantic added two runs in the eighth, and Rice was held to just one hit over the final six innings.
James Litman earned the win, moving to 4-2 on the year and Zach Kilby picked up his first save. Tanner Wiggins took the loss dropping to 1-1.

Rice and Florida Atlantic will play Game Two of its three-game series tomorrow, Mar. 28. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m., and the game will be streamed by ESPN+.
