FAYETTEVILLE – The Rice men's track and field team had several season and personal bests this weekend between two meets at the Tyson Invitational and the Howie Ryan Invitational.
In Fayetteville, Sultan Bakare had yet another weekend of personal bests in both the weight throw (21.20m) and shot put (17.66m), which both lead the American Conference.
Cal Abdulky added the second-best throw in the conference for the weight throw, with a season's best 21.18m mark.
Matthew Gaitan and Jackson Moran secured top 20 finishes in a highly competitive mile race.
Over at Houston, Jordan Edmondson finished ninth in the 800m. William Hagemeier had a clearance of 4.60m in the pole vault.
Post Meet Reaction - Head Coach Jon Warren
"We had some bright spots this weekend, starting with the throwers, especially in the weight throw. Sultan and Cal put up the two best throws in the conference to lead us there. Sultan also came back and threw the best conference throw in the shot put as well. Connor McGrath led the running with the fifth-best time at Rice for the 400m. In addition, we had some good showings in the 800m and mile. Now we move forward to the conference championship in two weeks."
