Schwartzman and Bakaityte Take Title

ITA All-American Doubles Consolation
Cary, North Carolina-Darya Schwartzman and Uma Bakaityte completed a memorable response from an opening loss to capture the championship of the ITA Women's All-American doubles consolation round on Sunday in Cary, North Carolina.
Schwartzman and Bakaityte raced to an early lead with a 6-2 win in the first set, but saw Notre Dame's Bianca Molnar and Bojana Pozder respond with a 6-3 win in the second to force the Owls' third, superset tiebreaker in their last four matches. The Irish surged to a 7-5 lead in the deciding set before the Owls reeled off five straight points to win the match.
Schwartzman and Bakaityte, who were ranked 18th in the preseason ITA rankings, fell to preseason #10 Gabriella Broadfoot and Victoria Osuigwe of North Carolina State, 6-2, 6-3 in their Main Draw opening match and then defeated the #3, 20 & 24 doubles teams on the way to Sunday's final. They dropped the first set of their opening match in the consolation round, then closed by winning eight of their last 10 sets.
