Rice XC Hosts Rice Invitational Friday

HOUSTON – The 2025 cross country campaigns kick off Friday afternoon for the Rice men's and women's cross country teams when they host the 49th annual Rice Invitational. The race will be held at the Rice Intramural Fields with the women's 4000m race beginning at 6:20 p.m. and the men's 5200m race at approximately 6:50 p.m.
The Rice women's cross country team returns to the course after a third-place finish at the American Conference Championship meet last season. Oliwia Kopeć led the Owls with a third-place finish, while Alex Gobran and Daphne Mayer also secured top 15 finishes to earn All-Conference honors.
Daphne was later named All-Region at the NCAA South Central Regional. Rice is currently seventh in the preseason USTFCCCA South Central Region poll.
The men's team is coming off a eighth-place finish at the American Championships. Led by All-Region returnee Gus Gannon, the Owls also return veteran runners and graduate students Andrew Murray, Ben Tijerina and Jackson Moran.
The Owls are currently ranked 10th in the USTFCCCA South Central Region poll.
