
Golfers Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

HOUSTON — Golfers Blake Benson, Lukas Boandl, Raghav Chugh, Jaivir Pande, and Reggie Zhu have been named Cobalt Golf Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholars, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
The five members tie the most in school history (2020). Rice was also one of 24 NCAA Division I teams, and the only team from the American, to have at least five recipients.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
Benson earns the honor for the third straight year. He finished the year with a 74.93 stroke average, and a career-high eight rounds of par or better. He had two top 20 finishes, including a season-best tie for 15th-place at the Ram Masters Invitational, where he fired a career-low 67 in the final round.
Boandl earns the honor for the second straight season. He was named to the AAC All-Conference Team while earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Bremerton Regional. Boandl led the team with a 71.40 stroke average, a -0.26 average vs. par, 22 rounds of par or better, 145 birdies, and 11 rounds in the 60's, which tied the school record. He had three top five, three top 10, and eight top 20 finishes. Boandl won his first career tournament at the Argent Financial Classic, finishing -10 to become the fourth golfer in school history to shoot -10 or better in a tournament. He also tied for first at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic (9/30-10/1) at -12, tying the second-lowest score to par in school history Boandl opened the spring season with a fifth-place finish at the Border Olympics.
Chugh takes the honor for the third consecutive season. He was third on the team with a 72.61 stroke average. He had eighth rounds of par or better and three rounds in the 60's He had his best finish of the season at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, where he finished a career-best -8 to tie for eighth-place. Chugh closed his career as Rice's all-time leader in stroke average (72.71), average vs. par (1.04), and rounds in the 60's (18).
Pande had a 74.92 stroke average, five rounds of par or better, and three round in the 60's. He earned his first career top-20 finish at the Ram Masters Invitational (9/17-18), tying for 15th-place at -1.
Zhu had a 73.45 stroke average, nine rounds of par or better, and three rounds in the 60's. He had three top-20 finishes, including tying for sixth at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, finishing -8.
