
Gannon Breaks School Record at Bryan Clay

AZUSA – The Rice men's track and field distance runners had a fantastic week out west at the Bryan Clay Invite. Several athletes broke into the Rice all-time top 10 lists, including breaking a longtime school record.
The meet opened with a bang, as Gus Gannon broke a 37-year school record in the 3000m steeplechase, previously held by Alfredo Gomez. Gannon's time of 8:43.02 was good for sixth in the race, with the top five finishers all breaking the stadium record.
Andrew Murray (8:56.57) also cracked the top 10 in the steeplechase, surpassing head coach Jon Warren's time (8:56.7) by .13 of a second.
Ben Tijerina finished in 11th in the 10000m Open with a personal best time of 29:51.44, marking the sixth-best time in program history.
In the 1500m Invite, Elliot Metcalf cracked the top 10 lists with a time of 3:45.25, moving into ninth all-time at Rice.
