RICE AND ECU:
- Rice leads the overall series 24-14, but the Pirates have won the last five, sweeping the season series last year in Greenville and then defeating Rice twice at the AAC Championship.
- Rice leads the series at Reckling 13-5 and also owns a win over the Pirates in Houston at Cougar Field during the 2010 C-USA Championship.
- Rice defeated the Pirates 16-8 Clark-LeClair Stadium in Greenville to win the 2007 C-USA Championship,
- The Owls are 22-13 in conference games vs. ECU (20-10 in the regular season) and 2-1
- Bixby Family Head Baseball Coach David Pierce is 5-5 in his career against East Carolina and has won his last two. He was 3-4 against the Pirates while at Tulane and 2-1 with Texas, with all three games coming in the 2022 Super Regional in which Texas dropped the opening game and then rallied back from a 7-2 deficit with two outs in the seventh to win 9-8 and then earn a spot in the College World Series with an 11-1 win in the deciding game.
LAST MEETING (5/24/24): Rice furiously fought back from an early 7-1 deficit only to see its season come to an end with the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position as top seed East Carolina held on for an 8-7 victory and earn a berth in the semifinals of the 2024 American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship.
LAST MEETING AT RECKLING (3/13/16): Rice had a solo home run by Andrew Dunlap before a bases-loaded triple from true freshman Ford Proctor in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally past No. 16 ranked East Carolina 4-1. With the win Rice claimed two of the three games in the weekend series between the former conference rivals. The Owls improved to 8-7 overall in its final weekend of non-conference action.
