East Carolina opens AAC home schedule this weekend
How it Happened: Rice staked starter Reed Gallant to a 4-0 lead, scoring twice in the third and fourth innings thanks to a pair of two-out hits. Landon West doubled to center in the third inning, bringing home Tobias Motley and Colin Robson, who had opened the frame with a double and infield single. Blaine Brown doubled the advantage in the fourth with a bases-loaded single with two outs, scoring Motley and Max Johnson. Gallant held the Tigers off the scoreboard through four innings, but they broke through with a pair of runs in the fifth. Garrett Stratton relieved Gallant with two outs and a pair of runners on base and preserved the two-run lead thanks to a ground out and a strikeout. TSU cut the lead to 4-3 in the sixth, but the Owls responded with eight runs over the next two innings to break the game open. Cole Green's bases-loaded double down the left field line brought home two, and a Trey Duffield groundout brought home the third run of the inning. In the seventh, Jacob Devenny and Duffield each drove in runs with sacrifice flies, West brought in another with a bases-loaded walk and the Owls took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to bring in two more.
Up Next: Rice opens its 2025 AAC home schedule with the return of former C-USA rival East Carolina to Reckling Park for the first time since 2016 this weekend. The series opener is set for 6:35 on Friday, followed by a 4 p.m. on Saturday, and ending with a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.
