
Rice Drops Final Road Contest at Temple

PHILADELPHIA – The Rice women's basketball team fell in the team's final road contest of the regular season in an 83-63 defeat to Temple Friday night at the Liacouras Center. Rice falls to 14-15 (7-10 AAC), while Temple improves to 18-10 (12-5 AAC).
Freshman Aniah Alexis led Rice with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting while adding three rebounds and an assist. Sussy Ngulefac added 10 points, on 4-of-4 shooting, with three rebounds and a block.
As a team, Rice shot 24-of-57 (42.1%) from the floor and 5-of-18 (27.8%) from three-point range. The visiting Owls added a 10-of-13 (76.9%) showing from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
A quick 5-0 Temple run opened the game before Victoria Flores and Alexis responded with five points to tie things early. Down by four, Alexis' and-one, followed by a Malia Fisher score, gave Rice the lead. After Temple took a slim lead, Dominque Ennis and Alexis hit back-to-back triples as Rice took a five-point lead. The visiting Owls led 22-19 at the end of the first.
Second Quarter
Temple grabbed the first basket of the second, with Ennis responding to extend the Rice lead back. Leading by two, Trinity Gooden and Ngulefac pushed the lead out to eight points. With Temple within four, Ennis hit another triple, with Ngulefac later trading scores with the home Owls. Rice led 38-33 at the half.
Third Quarter
Alexis scored the first basket of the third, with Temple responding with a 6-0 run to get within one. Hailey Adams snapped the run with a jumper, before Temple responded again to tie the game. After Adams and Shelby Hayes gave Rice a four-point advantage, Temple and Flores traded threes as the visitors maintained the lead. An 8-0 run by Temple gave them a 55-51 lead before Ngulefac snapped the run. Temple led 57-53 at the end of the third.
Fourth Quarter
A 6-0 Temple run opened the fourth as the home Owls extended their lead to 10 points. Trinity Gooden snapped the run, but Temple responded again to grab a 15-point lead before Ngulefac snapped that run. Temple would go on to close out the game for the win.

Ennis is now tied for second all-time for career threes at Rice with 164.
