
Rice Falls in Regular Season Finale Against UNT

HOUSTON – The Rice women's basketball team fell in the final game of the regular season in a 68-56 defeat to North Texas Tuesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse. The Owls fall to 14-16 (7-11 AAC) while the Mean Green improve to 23-7 (15-3 AAC).
Dominique Ennis led the Owls with 12 points off of four three-pointers while adding five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. Freshman Aniah Alexis finished with 11 points, six rebounds and a block.
As a team, Rice shot 20-of-70 (28.6%) from the floor and 5-of-24 (20.8%) from three-point range. The Owls added an 11-of-16 (68.8%) showing from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
The Mean Green opened the game on a 14-0 run before Trinity Gooden and Sussy Ngulefac got the Owls on the board with back-to-back scores. Malia Fisher closed the quarter with a pair of free throws as the Owls trailed 16-6.
Second Quarter
Fisher opened the scoring in the second quarter, with Kennedy Clifton following with a layup as the Owls got within seven points. Down by nine, Ennis drilled a three to cut into the deficit. Later down by four, back-to-back threes from Victoria Flores and Ennis gave Rice a 21-19 lead. North Texas led 28-21 at halftime.
Third Quarter
A North Texas score opened the third, with Alexis and Ngulefac bringing the Owls within five. A 7-0 UNT run pushed its lead to 12 points, with an Ennis three and Alexis layup getting Rice back within seven. Down by 12 again, Ennis hit another three, but the Mean Green pushed their lead to 52-39 to close the third.
Fourth Quarter
Ngulefac got the offense started in the fourth, but another UNT run extended the lead to 16 points before Alexis got Rice back on the board. Clifton later traded scores with the Mean Green as the Owls started chipping away. Alexis, Emily Klaczek and Gooden closed the scoring, as North Texas went on to win.
Quick Notes
Ennis took sole possession of second all-time in career threes with 168.
Her 72 threes this season rank second for single-season threes at Rice.
Fisher now ranks eighth in career rebounds with 745.

The Owls will head to the AAC Tournament as the ninth seed and will face eighth-seeded UAB on Sunday at noon.
