HOUSTON - The 59th-ranked Rice Owls will host two opponents this weekend, welcoming the UNLV Rebels on Friday before turning its attention to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sunday. Both matches will take place at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Rice enters the match at No. 59 in the ITA computer rankings, falling from No. 48 after a 1-1 weekend. Rice fell to Tulsa, who is now No. 58 in the rankings, but rebounded with a strong 4-1 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats.
UNLV is 7-2, but its two losses have come in its previous three matches. The Rebels defeated New Mexico State, 4-0, between losses to Colorado (1-4) and No. 52 Penn State (3-4). This will be the first road match for the Rebels, who opened the spring season with nine-straight home matches.
Louisiana Tech carries a 9-2 record into the match, winning eight-straight matches after starting the season 1-2 at the Hurricane Invite hosted by Tulsa. The Bulldogs will take on the Rebels on Saturday before facing the Owls on Sunday.
Rice is 1-1 all-time vs UNLV. In the first match-up between the two squads, Rice fell 6-3 to the Rebels in Las Vegas back in 1988. However, when the two met last season, Rice took down the Rebels 4-0 on their home court.
Rice is 8-0 all-time against Louisiana Tech, a series that dates back to 1983. The two squads met every year from 2015 - 2018, then picked the series back up last season, which resulted in a 5-2 Rice win.
