HOUSTON - The 59th-ranked Rice women's tennis team took care of business on Friday afternoon, defeating the UNLV Rebels 4-0 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. Rice improves to 7-4 on the year while UNLV falls to 7-3.

Action began in doubles play, where the 33rd-ranked tandem of Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez claimed the first set after a powerful performance, taking their doubles match 6-2. Saara Orav and Francesca Maguina replicated the result at the second line, earring a 6-2 victory to claim the doubles point. Allison Zipoli and Divna Ratkovic led their opponents 4-3 when the doubles portion was called off.

In singles action, Martinez was the first to clinch a victory with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at the fifth line, pushing Rice to a 2-0 lead over the Rebels. Nithesa Selvaraj followed up with her first win since the match against Houston on February 5. Orav clinched the match at the sixth line with a 6-3, 7-5 decision, earning Rice's fourth point and fifth shut-out victory of the season.

Rice will return to action on Sunday morning to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. UNLV and Louisiana Tech will meet in a neutral site match at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday morning.
