No. 59 Rice Sweeps Second-Straight Opponent, Downs Louisiana Tech on Sunday

HOUSTON - The 59th-ranked Rice Owls women's tennis squad earned a dominant 4-0 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. The Owls improve to 8-4 on the season while Louisiana Tech falls to 9-4.

Action began with doubles at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, where Rice only needed two courts to take down the Bulldogs. First, the 33rd-ranked tandem of Darya Schwartzman and Fernanda Martinez earned a 6-4 victory over Rodrigues and Epps at the first line, followed by Saara Orav and Francesca Maguina's 6-4 victory at the second line to claim the doubles point. Allison Zipoli and Divna Ratkovic trailed 5-6 during the match when doubles were called off.

In singles action, Martinez made quick work of her opponent at the fifth line, taking both sets with 6-1 decisions to earn Rice's second point of the match. Maguina made it 3-0 in favor of the Owls with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the third line. To clinch the match, Ratkovic at the second line earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory, shutting down her opponent's attempted rally in the second set late to seal the match for the Owls.

Rice returns to action on Saturday, March 8, as the Owls will take on the 68th-ranked UTSA Roadrunners from San Antonio, Texas.
