
Owls Set for AAC Championships

BIRMINGHAM – The Rice Owls men's track & field team heads to Birmingham this weekend for the AAC Indoor Championships. The two-day meet will open at 11:30 a.m. Friday on the men's side with the heptathlon.
In total, the Owls will have 20 athletes competing in 13 events.
Cal Abdulky looks to defend his weight throw title from a season ago, while Matt Kumar returns in the pole vault after a second-place finish at last year's competition.
Gus Gannon is seeded within the top eight in two events (3000m and 5000m) while Christian Edgar holds the eighth-fastest time in the 60m hurdles entering the meet.
Jackson Moran enters with fifth-fastest mark in the mile.
The Owls finished sixth as a team at last year's meet, collecting 68 points.
